Francisco Casas Llompart, the architect of Balneario Illetas
Francisco Casa Llompart was born in Palma de Mallorca in the year 1905. He was one of the most prestigious Mallorcan artists from the 20th century for his supporting of rationalist architecture and for always producing architecture dedicated to the people which put, above all, comfort and aesthetics at the forefront of every project. His works during the 40’s and 50’s marked his path in the south of the island, in 1958, he executed a project which today we know as Balneario Illetas, a beach club in Mallorca located in an incomparable location, and which is part of the Historical Heritage of Calvià.

Llompart built his first project in 1933 and is known mainly for rationality in popular architecture. He trained in Madrid and later moved to Barcelona, where he was inspired by the rationalism of the Le Courbusier, by the Group of Spanish Artists and Technicians for the Progression of Contemporary Architecture (known as GATEPAC). His works include the Café Mercantil in Inca (1936), the Las Maravillas church in el Arenal or the Bendinat Hotel (1951), the Hotel Roc Illetas (1955), Hotel Maricel (1948) and the Hotel Nixe Palace in Cala Major (1957). These are just some of the traces he has left on the island.
